Photographs: Inside The Auschwitz Tour
I recently visited Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II “Birkenau” two of the most famous concentration, “death camps” in the history of World War II. These sites are known to be the very place millions of people lost their lives. These are some of the photographs I took during my time spent walking through the sites.
WARNING: These images may cause distress for some, please think carefully if you are easily upset. Some photographs are very confronting.
Entrance into Auschwitz
Inside one of the Barracks (Sleeping bunkers)
Human ashes recovered after the camps where destroyed
The “sorting” process. Once the Jewish and prisoners of war arrived after endless days on trains, the women, children and elderly were put to one side and the heathy fit young men to the other. You can only imagine what happened next.
The gas powder cans which were recovered. It truly shows you how many millions of people they killed.
The “tattoo identification number” which was engraved onto new-comers to the camp.
The type of symbol sewn onto the prisoners clothes represented what they were to society
This photograph touched my heart and made me burst into tears. This beautiful young girl only lived two weeks in the camp before she died. The saddest thing is you can just see it in her expression she knew she was going to die.
Poor, poor little children starved to death, some were used in “experiments”
This is the book of names. Millions of people that died have there names written in this book.
The gas chamber
The crematory used to burn bodies, after thousands of people had been gases to death at one time.
Remains of the barracks
The remains of one of the crematories, it smelt like death. It was horrible, so heartbreaking, and so horrible.
